The Genius of Danny Kaye

dk

A dull afternoon, that’s the best time to watch a Danny Kaye film. Today was such a day so on went ‘The Court Jester’. I often think that Danny Kaye is often (unfairly) overlooked when discussing movie greats. Singing, dancing and countless inventive tongue twisting routines, Kaye had far more to offer than many of his more celebrated contemporaries. Danny Kaye was one of the most entertaining men alive. Perhaps his most famous role is as Danish fairy tale author Hans Christian Andersen in the film of the same name, (as a kid it always seemed to be on during the school holidays). For me though it’s ‘The Court Jester’ that shows off Danny’s skills to best effect.

Then there’s the wordplay, and probably Kaye’s most famous routine…

Go straight to Amazon (other shops are available) and buy ‘The Court Jester’, keep it in reserve. Wait for the next dull gloomy day ‘Hey presto!’ instant sunshine. Danny Kaye I salute you!
